Artist: Killing Heidi
Album Title: Reflector
Label: Warner
Bones:
Summary: Be cautious of any album that opens with its first two singles
Reviewed By: Stuart McPhee

WARNING! Be cautious of any album that opens with its first two singles. Nine times out of ten the band is just hiding the fact that the rest of the album isn't as good. Also be wary of any debut album that is strongly hyped before it even hits the shelves.

So with that strong warning out of the way let us move on to Killing Heidi's strongly hyped debut album, Reflector. Opening with its first two singles, the top ten hits, 'Mascara' and 'Weir', Reflector is an album of simple pop guitar hooks and catchy lyrics that can do no wrong. The problem is that the tracks are all the same. I guess that's why it's called Reflector. For every good song like 'Leave Me Alone', 'Class Celebrities' and 'Jon's Song' there's a track like 'Superman/Supergirl' which sounds like B-side material.

One good point is the fantastic voice of teenage lead vocalist, Ella Hooper. With a style that can range from Natalie Merchant and Gwen Stefani from No Doubt, it is unfortunate that it's only put to good use on a few of the songs ('Astral Boy', 'Jon's Song').

So if it's an album full of 'slow verses and fast choruses' that you are after, then Reflector is for you. Me? I'm holding out for something better.
