So much for that whole 'garage rock' days of the late 60's early 70's. Make way for the new movement, BRING BACK MY 80's!, and Hot Hot Heat is paving the way with rock tunes reminding us that the 80's didn't completely suck.
Steve Bays does a great job with the vocals, which are the key flavor to give this band that signature 80's feel and sound (along with his keyboard tunes).
If you listen carefully Hot Hot Heat might even remind you of a young XTC or a teenage Elvis Costello. Listen uncarefully and you'll find the catchy indie rock has made your head start bobbing.
They've perfected the formula of being a good rock band but also encorporating a synthesizer to the mix aswell. This is more then obvious on tracks such as 'No Not Now', 'Get in or Get Out', and 'Oh Godamnit'.
Make Up the Breakdown is a wonderfully comprised album of indie pop-rock that any college boy or girl would enjoy and keep playing long after it's scratched from being used as a beer coaster. It's possibly one of the top 10 of the year based on its consistent quality of song-writing.
They're so good you wouldn't even guess there from Canada.
