The White Stripes sat in a London studio contemplating their next move. The music industry, sometimes like a game of chess was not going to be the first thing to take advantage of frontman Jack White. Knowing that the bands upcoming 4th major label release was going to cause an impact, either good or bad in their careers. As you turn on the album (Elephant) the first song sucks you in. The slow entrancing beat of "Seven Nation Army" brings back memories of some early 70's "Doors" songs. On track 4 "I Don't Know What To Do With Myself" Jack White shows you the guitarist that he had never unveiled in previous episodes of his career.
For the first time on any White Stripes album, guitar solos are included and do add to the musical journey that any listener would embark on upon hearing this materful piece of vinyl. Meg White even has a singing stint on "Cold Cold Night" showing that she is also a huge part of the band, heck, how can't you be when there are only two people getting just as good a reaction from critics everywhere than a four person band with two guitarists and a bassist. After most of the slow songs on the album "Hypnotize" brings back memories of "Fell In Love With A Girl" (White Blood Cells) but with a more sophisticated feeling. Most of the songs brought a smile to my face at the accomplishment of the two musicians, and yes, they truly are musicians.
The White Stripes have struck gold with Elephant. Do NOT pass up your chance to own it. |
