Warner Bones:
 Summary:
It's really fucking good hey Reviewed
By: Sparticus and Wayne Bennett
My flatmate Wayne Bennett was really broke this week but when he got his paycheck the first thing he did was run to the nearest record store and buy Deftones, by the Deftones. He told me he was going to write a review about it this weekend and for all I know he might be going to do that.
In case he doesn't write a full review, here are some comments he made on Thursday when he bought it.
It's really fuckin good hey
I hate to use the word but, 'emo' is what it is
I rung Ming up and said 'guess what I've got' and he said, 'I know I got it on Sunday, it's really good hey'
'New music that I really like'
He referred to one song as being a stand out, but overall he was under the impression that it was a really solid fuckin good album.
That was about it, but he's played it most days since then and the house has been a good place for it.

Stop the Press, Wayne did write a review - here it is:

Even though I hate the word 'Emo' is the one word description for Deftones new installment. I didn't even know they were releasing another record, I was walking past the local store, seen it advertised and before I knew what I was doing I had pre ordered a copy. If there's a 'grown mans' heavy music then this would have to be it. From the flowing, melodic vocal lines the way that only Chino can do it right through to Deftones erratic guitar and bass lines this album will satisfy the avid Deftones fan right through to the green thumb that's bought their first heavy album. One of the more remarkable things about this album is the way that Deftones have mixed their old style with the style more evident on White Pony. It's a very flowing melodic album although in the 'crunchier' sections anyone that knows Deftones music will be able to pick a little of the stylings from Adrenaline and Around The Fur poking it's head in. I would've personally liked a bit more 'crunchy stuff' in there but the resulting mix is however more than satisfying. The production is absolutely amazing, giving the album an overall feeling of dreaminess, much like White Pony. Overall a top album, including an enhanced CD with snippets of Deftones behind the scenes and a huge photo album. Even though 'Emo' isn't a really popular word, if your into that sort of thing, like the title or hate it, even if your curious about heavier music Deftones self titled would be an excellent addition to any collection |
