Chris Richards - Mystery Spot Review

Summary: Power Pop to put a smile on your dial

I'm starting to wonder what they're putting into the water up in Michigan. Hot on the heels of Brandon Wiard's 'Painting A Burning Building' comes a likeable fellow in Chris Richards offering up 13 slices of hook-laden tasty power pop with 'Mystery Spot'.

Essentially what Richards has on offer here isn't new, but that isn't the point. The point is, it serves it's purpose of getting you're backside shaking and putting a permanent grin on your face.

Great tunes abound, none more so than 'She Belongs To Me' that for a few minutes takes you back to early 80s Saturday Morning Music Programs...at least where I grew up. The opening two tracks, 'Is There Anybody Else?' and 'Your First Mistake' also highlight Richards' pop-writing sensibilities.

A much more reflective Chris Richards is on display come Side 2. Yes there's an imaginary Side 2 but it is a nice addition all the same. 'Gracefully' floats along courtesy of some tender keyboards and bass lines.

Richards more than holds his own amongst today's Power Popsters. He knows how to write a tune or two, that for damn straight.
