Rob Zombie - Educated Horses Review

black-dot.gif

Artist: Rob Zombie
Album Title: Educated Horses
Label: Geffen
Bones:
Summary: Insert witty horse gag here:
Reviewed By: Chad Bosworth

The title pretty much sums it up for the latest Zombie outing: Confusing and a bit dull.  Listening to Educated Horses, you can't help but wonder how much heart went into the production of this album.  Has the Alt-Metal Rocker lost his taste for recording in favour of filming?

Maybe.

Opener "American Witch" and first single "Foxy Foxy" serve as a decent intro, if not a little by-the-numbers, and then things head down-hill. The songs are dis-jointed, the style is lacklustre and the general output is underwhelming. Sure, there are some catchy beats, and the classic Zombie vocals give the listener some hope that it's all going somewhere, but it just doesn't.

It's fairly obvious that Zombie's passion lies in B-Grade Horror film, and there's a washy theme of it running through the album - but it's not enough to be able to mentally match the music to some unmade Slasher film - you have to enjoy the sound, and there's just not enough here to get into.
